Full Mouth Debridement
A full mouth debridement is a cleaning including teeth scaling which is completed prior to the initial exam. Full mouth debridement is only indicated if a patient presents with excessive calculus on the teeth and inflammation of the gums which may prevent the periodontist/dentist from obtaining an accurate evaluation. Once the oral cavity is thoroughly cleaned, the tissue will have a chance to heal and become less tender, thus allowing a periodontist/dentist to accurately examine for decay, infections, and gum disease.
